15 Minutes of Fame

A couple weekends ago, I needed to get Esmee out of the house. I found a basic chicken keeping class at Cluck, Inc. in Providence, RI. I didn't expect Esmee to get any of the finer details, but I thought the whole experience could benefit her and maybe help develop her mind and curiosity. We had a fun time and made the Providence Journal at the same time.

Strike Out Cancer With Minnesota Twins Pitcher, Brian Duensing

How cool is this!!  Minnesota Twins pitcher, Brian Duensing, is sporting a Team Zoë tee shirt!!

For Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Brian is Going Gold for children with cancer by wearing a different tee shirt each day to help raise awareness for organizations that support children with pediatric cancer.

I am so impressed by Brian's kindness and commitment to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.  Thank you so much, Brian!  You are a world class citizen for using your power as a professional athlete to shine a light on a darkness that affects so many children.  Today was hard for me,  as I was missing my daughter badly, but your picture lifted me up!  Thank you!!

Brian Duensing can be followed on Twitter and you can view all 30 of his tee shirts through the month of September.

Go For Gold Year Round!

Laura told me she was working on something tonight...for Zoë.  This Go Gold For Zoë meme is what she meant.  I still have trouble accepting that Zoë passed away two years ago.  It seems so unfair that any child would have to fight for dear life.  It's worse that my child had to endure that battle.

I love this picture of Zoë sleeping with her friends, the stuffed animals.  It's a beautiful picture.  It's peaceful, when at the time of my life, things were certainly not peaceful, but always a whirlwind of emotions and precarious certainty.

Many times I wish I could peak in the nursery and
look down on my sleeping Warrior Princess as easily as it is to load a picture.

Will I ever see my daughter again?  It is possible that we will have the opportunity to reconnect with Zoë before long.  Laura contacted a professor at Brown University, who manages Ladd Observatory in Providence, RI.

This is significant because in 2012, a group of employees at Citizen's Bank pulled together enough money and actually bought the rights to name a star after Zoë.  The professor agreed to arrange a night in 2015 when Zoë's star is in the skywhere we may come to the observatory and view the star.  It's too far away to see by eyes alone, but with the help of science and a powerful telescope, Laura and I will reconnect with our darling Zoë again in this life.

Cold Water Challenge

6/18/2014

Hello Everyone!

Laura was called out by Sara Fitts to do the cold water challenge.  Because Laura is pregnant and not allowed to participate, I am doing the challenge in her place.  We will donate $10 to her chosen charity the Ronald McDonald House in Providence.

I am calling out the following people, Seth Joubert, Daniel Joubert, Jr., Jennifer Croft, Anthony Pirri, Stephan Saraidarian, Tommy Holton, and Ashley Silverman.

I’ve called you out because I believe that you are crazy enough to honor this challenge, and to be creative enough to find cold water even in the summer.

You have one week to do this challenge and donate $10 to The Zoë Faye Foundation in honor of Zoë, or you can keep warm and dry and donate $100 to the same charity.

Get COLD for charity!

My heartfelt thanks for your donations go out to:

Chair Massage Fundraiser to benefit Children's Hospital

3/14/2014

I am excited to be working with The Children's Hospital Boston, and the people who organize the Tuff Scramblers 5K obstacle course over in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.

On May 17th, I am going to set up an area where I will offer chair massage to athletes and spectators to benefit the Children's Hospital.   I set a goal for 400 dollars and if I stay busy all day, I will easily reach it.  Of course, I want to crush the goal....

Here are the details:  Tuff Scramblers is the "Ultimate 5K Adventure Race." That is their slogan, and I don't mind endorsing it as such, because I've run the race twice and loved it both times.

Parking is located at 20 Francis Street Rehoboth, Massachusetts.  There is a second lot close by if the first one is full.  The price to enter the event as a spectator is five dollars.  However, if you bring two packages of non-perishable food items, you'll get in for free.  Those items will be donated to the Bethel Community Development Rehoboth Food Pantry.  Children 14 and under get in for free.

I'll be ready to start massage as soon as I am allowed.  I know that registration for athletes starts at 8 AM.  I'll be charging a dollar per minute and 100% of the money I raise will be mailed to the Children's Hospital Trust within 7 days after the fundraiser.  I will be accepting cash (be mindful that there will not be an ATM machine on location) and Checks (all checks made out to the Boston Children's Hospital is a tax write off).

I hope to see you there.  Tuff Scramblers put on a good show.  After each race, there will be food, drinks, and music.  And of course chair massage!  That' what I am all about!

Forever Young Massage & Bodywork

2/11/2014

Why did I chose the name Forever Young?

It is cliché that I would decide on naming my massage practice Forever Young, considering that my surname is Young.  Under normal circumstances I would have immediately shot down the mere suggestion.  I do not practice massage therapy under normal circumstances.

Back when Laura and I were searching for a middle name to give Zoë, Laura joking suggested naming our daughter, “Zoë Forever Young.”  Of course, I immediately said no, and as our dialogue progressed, you know we settled on Zoë Faye.

By the time Zoë was born, I regret to say that I had stopped practicing massage therapy after an exciting career.  Like many of my colleagues, I became victim to “burn out.”  I went to school and became a phlebotomist instead.

Zoë got sick, and we spent three months at Boston Children’s Hospital.  From the time Zoë was born, through the challenges of caregiving to an infant with cancer, I recognized the innate power of unconditional love within myself for my daughter.  I witnessed the suffering she went through, and the mutual suffering she shared with other children fighting cancer.  My passion for massage therapy was rekindled for the sake of my crusade against pediatric cancer.

I have skills and an ability to help people feel good.  Massage has so many positive benefits.  It can help facilitate the body’s natural healing abilities.  Forever Young Massage & Bodywork was born amongst the suffering brought on by cancer.  Forever Young was born with the mission to help people feel better while at the same time supporting pediatric cancer research.  100% of the profits will be donated to organizations doing the best work to stop cancer from hurting our children.

If you are interested in supporting my mission, please call to schedule a massage in the comfort of your home at your convenience.
